## Verify, Don't Trust

When producing an analysis or summarization of something gleaned from a resource,
always verify that the resource actually says what you claim it says. Do not
hallucinate details. If you're unsure, say so. If you can't verify, say so.
Quote directly when possible.

simple. boring. saves you from the thing where Claude confidently summarizes a file it clearly skimmed. one of the top comments pointed out you can also build a hook that enforces this behavior programmatically, so you're not relying on the AI's word alone. the combination of a CLAUDE.md instruction plus a verification hook is the kind of defense-in-depth that actually works. Fable apparently doesn't need it as much, but everything else does.
